Ettringen
GermanyEttringen is a highly distinctive sport climbing destination famous for its unique columnar basalt formations. The climbing style is technical, powerful, and often pumpy, with routes generally ranging from moderate (French 6a) to very difficult (8a+), though it excels in the 6c-7c range. Its challenging vertical to overhanging faces, cracks, and features formed by the columns offer a memorable and demanding experience requiring precise footwork and strong fingers.

Hydra 8a
Hydra is the classic 8a finger crack in Ettringen, Germany. It sits on the left hand side of a beautiful amphitheater. Rarely ascended, and I believe most recent Dutch ascent was Gerke Hoekstra in August 2014. The 7c variant touches the side and gives a comfortable heel-hook. But of course, the only real line is the stunning straight up. This is a video of my ascent in August of 2017. The video was filmed by: Kris Schrijvers and the belay was done by: Vincent van Montfoort. The climber in the video is me personally: Jeroen van zeeland. Music is by Mura Masa with the song Lovesick.
